Worthwhile Works

Enjoyable Reads From Me to You

Recollections of My Nonexistence

By Rebecca Solnit

This memoir is important; Solnit brings readers through the fears and trials faced by women during her youth as well as those faced by women today. Throughout your reading, you’ll actually be able to recognize Solnit come into her voice and power by finding strength in marginality. Recognizing problems, like the ones that Solnit addresses, is how we’ll be able to create a safer environment for women and men alike. This read is intense. You will surely feel the weight of Solnit’s experience through her words. But, it so very worth it.

Zodiac Academy

By Caroline Peckham and Susanni Valenti

This fantasy novel is everything you dream of but didn’t know you wanted; it combines astrology, mythical creatures, magic and more to make a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Considering this book is part of a series, I’ve been on the edge of my seat for some time now. The plot is perfectly crafted, complex enough to be engaging and wildly entertaining, but not complex enough to for any reader to get lost or left behind. The language the authors use is modern, without a hint of tacky-ness, and yet another element that will immerse you into this book. Needless to say, this series is my newest obsession.

Slammed

By Colleen Hoover

Slammed is the first in it’s series of three, so when you’re done with this one, you don’t have to be too devastated. Hoover will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions with this novel; it made my heart ache (for a number of reasons which I shan’t delve into so as to keep your first interaction with this book as perfect as it should be) and kept me on the edge of my seat. This romance novel depicts the troubles of adulthood and newfound responsibilities. It’s so candid that you might just forget your own life and get sucked into this one as I did.

The Importance of Being Earnest

By Oscar WIlde

Oscar Wilde is an incredible writer and if you haven’t had the chance to read one of his works yet, you should look into reading this play; it is a fast-paced comedy full of quick wit and character intricacies. This play, unlike most others that I have read, reads impressively well as a novel. Like in the case of this play, it is sometimes absolutely impossible to know how a writer comes up with such an incredulous yet somehow perfectly executed plot. It would be a shame to miss out on this production.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

By Lewis Carroll

Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” is one of my all time favorite novels. It is both a nightmare and a fairytale, a book of wonder and awfully stressful situations. This story is every impossible thing that I wish was true, like sarcastic wide-smiling cats and smoking caterpillars, and everything I’m glad isn’t true, like a lack of all sense and time entirely. Carroll takes her readers on a disorienting and enthralling ride of magical impossibilities that you don’t want to miss out on.
